It was deadly being part of the NRL Indigenous Round with our very own Kane leading the design of this year’s St George Illawarra Dragons Indigenous jersey. Despite the weather, it was unreal seeing mob come together alongside the South Sydney and Illawarra community to celebrate culture, footy and the influence of our people in the game we love. ✊🏿
A Celebration of Dharawal Country & Culture
The Dragons’ 2025 Indigenous Jersey is more than just a kit - it’s a powerful story of the Dharawal community and the stories that has guided generations across land, sea and sky.
The artwork brings to life the Dharawal seasonal calendar, the wisdom of Elders, and the strong bonds between people, animals and the environment.
Both the Dragons’ NRL and NRLW squads proudly wore the jersey on Saturday 9 August in their local derby clash against the Sharks at Jubilee Stadium, standing united in recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the land on which we live and play.
The Story in the Design
At the heart of the design sit six meeting places, each representing one of the six Dharawal seasons:

Burruan – hot and dry

Marrai’gang – wet becoming cool

Burrugin – cold and frost

Wiritjiribin – cold and windy

Ngoonungi – cool becoming warm

Parra’dowee – warm and wet
Each meeting place is paired with an animal that embodies the spirit of that season – creating a vibrant connection to Mother Earth and Father Sky.
Three of the meeting places reflect the strength of women as gatherers and nurturers, cultural educators, and spiritual leaders whilst the other three honour the contributions of men as hunters and providers, warriors and protectors, and storytellers and knowledge keepers.
Honouring Ancestors & Elders
Handprints woven through the design acknowledge the guiding presence of ancestors, while flowing waterways represent the rivers and streams of Dharawal Country – life-giving, connective, and sacred.
Footprints symbolise the journeys of Elders and their ongoing role in passing down knowledge and ensuring culture continues strong for future generations.
Every element of the jersey is a reminder to reflect, respect, and learn from the world’s oldest continuous culture.
